The Nature of the Glory of God

Text: Prov. 25:2

Introduction

It is true that God is not going to share His glory with man. There are those within the professing church today who are convinced that they can "unfold" God's divine mysteries. (Col. 2:18)


Outline of Sermon

Introduction

A. The depths of the wisdom and knowledge of God (Rom. 11:33)

   1. God's unsearchable wisdom and knowledge (v. 33)  

   2. God is unlimited in His knowledge and wisdom by which is beyond man's understanding.

B. The deep things of God

   1. God knows the mind of the Spirit. (Jb. 11:7; Psa. 92:5)

   2. What is revealed by the Spirit of God. (Ac. 1:7)

C. The Concealing of the things of God (Deut. 29:29; Prov. 25:2)

  1. God's secret wisdom and knowledge.

  2. The deep mysteries of God.

    a. "Who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?

    b. The counseled instructing the Counselor.

I. The Difference Between the Glory of God and Man (Prov. 25:2)

 A. The glory of God is to conceal a matter (v. 2a)

   1. The "secret" things of God (Deut. 29:29; Ac. 1:7)

   2. God's hidden wisdom and knowledge (Rom. 11:33)

B. The glory of kings is to search out a matter (v. 2b)

  1. Job 29:16: "search out the case that I did not know."

  2. Prov. 29:7: "The righteous... consider the cause of the poor." 

   a. The contrast

     1) The righteous considers the cause of the poor. (v. 7)

     2) The wicked (ungodly) do not understand such knowledge. (v. 7)

  b. Its inquiry

    1)  The inquiry of the righteous (Prov. 29:7a)

    2) The unknowability of the ungodly in regards to depths of the knowledge of God.

II. The Glory of God Concealing a Matter (Prov. 25:2a)

   A. The depths of God's divine mysteries

     1. God's unsearchable wisdom and knowledge (Rom. 11:33)

     2. The mind of the Spirit.

  B. The sphere of God's wisdom and knowledge

    1. God is unlimited in His wisdom and knowledge.

    2. Man is "limited" in his knowledge of Who God Is.

III. The Glory of Kings is to Search Out a Matter (Prov. 25:2b)

    A. Jb. 29:16.

    B. Prov. 29:7.
