The Duty and Responsibility of Elders In Preaching the Gospel
The apostle Paul to Timothy his son in the faith says, "Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care." (1 Tim. 6:20a) What were Timothy's duties and responsibilities in preaching the gospel? First, Timothy's duty was to guard to the truth of the gospel because there were those who sought to undermine the true nature and character of Christ's message. We must understand the gravity by which many professing Christians seek to "devalue" the message of Christ's gospel. (Gal. 1:8-9)
Throughout this article, I will begin to address what elders duties and responsibility concerning the gospel. There are implications by which apostle Paul warns against godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge. (v. 20b) The emptiness and futility of empty talk and knowledge ("gnosis") of those who debate about the law and Gnosticism denigration of the Person and work of Jesus Christ are very much evident within the professing church today. There are legalists who do not understand what they say when it comes to the law nor what they affirm neither do Gnostics who claim such superior knowledge by which it is not the true knowledge of God. (Col. 1:9, 10)
Once again why is it necessary for elders to guard the truth of the gospel against those who would undermine that its true message? First, when it comes to the gospel it implies that of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. (1 Cor. 15:1-4) The gospel is the power of God by which we are saved. How is it that the gospel of Christ have been dengriated? Why is it so important for the church to guard the truth of the gospel?
All to Familiar Language
The necessity of guarding the truth of the gospel is the all to familiar language that have been utilized by many professing Christians. They appeal to a large audience within the church, social media, and Christian television that they utilized the language of the Bible but have different meanings. (2 Cor. 11:3) In so many words the powerful aresnal of post-cult evangelism is that many "cultist" appeal to the masses of people especially believers who are niave utilized such biblical languages (e.g. "First-Born") but systematically distort such biblical words. The "term" salvation, power of God, grace, faith, Jesus Christ are familiar biblical languages false spiritual leaders appeal to the unstable and ignorant as they do also the other scripture unto their own destruction. Whenever there is such distortion of biblcal truth it greatly impact people's lives spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and morally. (2 Tim. 2:17-18).
How Biblical Languages Are Defined
First, when it comes to the central message of Christ is that the gospel is centered around the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Christ's death on the cross provides such forgiveness and cleansing of our sins by which those who trust in Christ alone for their salvation will experience the gift of eternal life. (Jn. 3:15, 16, 36). The problem with those within the walls of the church as well as those who are outside the corridors of biblical Christianity is that even though they utilize biblical terms (e.g. "grace") are ignorant by which they seek to interpret biblical languages within such cultural context. They are so spiritually illiterate by which professing Christians are also ignorant of the truth of God's Word. They will also attempt to connect power of God unto salvation with having a powerful ministry accompanied with signs, wonders, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Yet those who travels across the world deny that of the gospel of Christ as to say that the Man Jesus needed the anointing of the Holy Spirit to do miracles.
