Full Gospel Baptist: A Work of the Flesh? Or Work of the Spirit?
The question, "Is Full Gospel Baptist a "genuine" move of the God? How is it possible for the leadership of "Full Gospel Baptist" to bridge the "gap" between Baptist and Pentecostal when its own leaders are ignorant of church history and theology? Is it an attempt to do its damage from "within" so as to destroy the faith and life of the Church today? Is it possible to trace the DNA evidence of the history of Full Gospel Baptist with early Gnosticism today? What is the nature and character of Gnosticism throughout the history of the first and second century early church?
What is so striking about early Gnosticism in the first and second century church was to be in competition with the teachings of the Church ("Christ's divinity") by which to appear "Christian" but whose goal is to do such untold damage to the ethical/moral teaching with that of true biblical Christianity and the historic Christian church (Acts 20:28-30). Most Gnostics goal were to eat away at the foundational teachings and superstructure of the church with its disease-substance teaching (2 Tim. 2:17, 18). The history of The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International spearheaded by Bishop Paul Morton that is based out of Atlanta, Georgia borrowed "heavily" from various religious traditions: that of Baptist as its structure, Charismatic as to the "gifts" of the Spirit, Pentecostal as to its worship, and Word of Faith as to its teaching of the Word as to be apart of its theological "scheme" so as to lure the ignorant and naive of believers into its own Fellowship (2 Cor. 4:1-4; 11:3; Eph. 4:14). It is very unfortunate that the leadership of "Full Gospel Baptist" was in fact responsible for infiltrating that of The National Baptist Convention, USA by which many of its leaders within the convention followed in their "revolt" against an established Christian organization (Acts 5:35, 37). It also have in fact "weaken" many traditional Black Baptists across this country in regards to its ethical/moral teaching through the infection of neo-Gnosticism (2 Tim. 2:17-18). The "deadly" disease of Gnostics within the professing church today are like "parasites" that eats away at the foundation of the Church as to its "skeletal" remains. In so many words the church is no longer the church by which it is not recognizable (Matt. 16:18; 1 Cor. 3:10-15, 16). The foundation from which The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship is built upon is that of its "faulty" foundation and superstructure as a sub-Christian group: that of it "admixture" of different religious traditions, Oriental religion, and neo-Gnosticism (1 Tim. 6:20). This is a brief evaluation of the history of Gnosticism which comes in the "form" of The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International whose present presiding Bishop Joseph Walker.
In Part 2 of my article I will begin to address many of the questions that is within this present article that I wrote briefly about, "The History of Full Gospel Baptist: A Work of the Flesh? Or A Work of the Spirit?" It is very important to see "Full Gospel Baptist" for what it truly is and that it is not apart of the "genuine" fellowship of believers (1 Jn. 2:18 with Acts 5:35, 37; 28:29-30). Many of its beliefs especially as it relates to the doctrine and work of the Holy Spirit is very much troublesome and confusing. It place so much overemphasis on the work of the Spirit but omits the Person of the Holy Spirit. Also many of the essentials of the Christian faith (e.g. "authority" of the Bible) have in fact been greatly denied in favor of such "subjective" revelation of the spirit, personal prophecies, and "inward" voice as its source of authority (2 Pet. 1:20 with 2 Pet. 3:3).
The Church as a whole as well as its own leadership are unaware of the dangers of Gnosticism which has in fact plagued the Church's faith in ruining the moral lives of believers (1 Tim. 6:20; 2 Tim. 2:17-18). The Church must have discernment in spiritually deceptive times by which to model that of the Bereans in that they, "searched the scriptures daily to see if those things were so." (Acts 17:11)
