Why Another Book on the Prosperity Gospel?
Even though there are many books that are written on the Prosperity Gospel, but that many of the books that are written on this subject does not address the history of the prosperity-faith movement from which is it historically connected to such cults as Christian Science, New Thought metaphysics, Religious Science, and Swedonborgianism. Many proponents of the prosperity gospel will contend that it is based upon the Bible, but either ignorant and unaware of the influence of New Thought, Mind-Cure and Harmonalism (1 Tim. 6:20 with Colossian 2:18, 19). I will challenge supporters of the prosperity gospel and followers of the Faith movement especially within the African American Word of Faith movement churches and its own leadership to look outside the scope of the cultural of Faith theology even though "mind-control" plays a integral part in how people read, hear, and see. Any outside authority, scholars, or critical of the movement's leadership and controversial teachings is rejected at all cost, but it is to their own peril. Once people begin to think critically by examining what they are being taught to believe than there will be a "leakage" within the system in and of itself by which many prosperity teachers will say and do anything to silence the mouth of their critics as if they are attacking God's anointed. The question?: "Are God's Anointed Beyond Accountability?" Whenever people are discouraged by such cultic leadership to think for themselves as well as asking any questions than that is a "red" flag that they are in a cult (Rom. 16:17-18).
The answer to this all pervasive problem that have in fact affected the Church as a whole is (1) Know the history of the group or organization that is under study as well as its founder/s (Acts 5:35, 37). (2) That of its "distinctive" teachings that are outside the mainstream of biblical Christianity and the historic Church (1 John 4:1 with Acts 17:11). (3) That of its psychological impact in "how" people have been cut off from the outside world as to its irrationality in opposition to what is reasonable faith. Family members who have lost their loved ones to a questionable and controversial church, group, or organization must seek exit-counselors who specialize in cults, psychotherapy, and psychology. Our ministry is a teaching ministry that seek to answer people Bible questions, defend the truth of biblical Christianity, probing into alternative and new religious movements, but are also a carefully researched ministry as well. We believe in the authority and inspiration of the Bible by which we are a evangelical, Reformed Baptist church that adhere to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith.
It is my prayer that many of you who happened to read my article find it insightful and informative as to become better witness for Christ is an age of uncertainty. May God bless you and yours.
